You may think that getting married on Valentine’s Day is the best idea you’ve ever had. After all, what better day to get married than on the official day of love? It makes so much sense that you almost wonder why more people don’t do it. While Valentine’s Day is known as the day of love the world over, there are many reasons that it may not make sense for you to get married on that day.
If you have your heart set on getting married on Valentine’s Day, keep the following tips in mind before you sign the contract for your space. Having this information ahead of time can save you a lot of headaches down the road.
Valentine’s Day Is the Day of Love for Everyone
You’re absolutely correct in believing that it makes sense to get married on Valentine’s Day because it’s the day of love. What you should keep in mind is that Valentine’s Day is the day of love for everyone.
Valentine’s Day is a unique day loaded with many conflicting emotions for many different people. People who are in committed relationships will most likely want to spend the day with their significant others. People who aren’t in relationships may not want to spend the day seeing their friends get married and celebrate their success. If you’re okay with a certain number of people not showing up for your wedding, then book away. Just keep in mind that your guest list may not be as big as you planned for it to be, and to that end, you shouldn’t get offended if people don’t want to show up.
Many Venues Are Booked
A lot of venues are actually booked for Valentine’s Day because they’re renting out their spaces for large events for couples. This isn’t to say that you won’t get the venue of your choice. All it means is that you may not get the exact venue that you want because it may have already been booked by a large group or by a couple who had the same idea as you.
If you have your heart set on a venue, reach out to the venue and find out if they’re available as soon as you can. In some cases, you may have to pay a premium because they may be losing out on money that they could have received from a larger booking. This may not be the case at all venues, so reach out to the venue no matter what. You may be surprised and even get a deal.
It May Be Difficult to Get Certain Items
You’ve seen TV shows or movies where some character is running around like a chicken with their head cut off because they forgot to get flowers on Valentine’s Day. By the time that they do find flowers, they’re either extraordinarily expensive or extremely low quality. This is because flower sales reach their yearly highs on Valentine’s Day. Keep in mind that if you have your heart set on a venue filled with roses, you may have to pay an extremely steep premium for them. You might want to consider other flowers that are equally as beautiful but not so closely associated with Valentine’s Day.
You may also want to plan on getting all of your decor early. A lot of love-themed decor sells out very quickly around Valentine’s Day, and much of what is available tends to be a bit cheesy and tacky, so you may have to go to special vendors to get the exact high-end decorations that you want for your special day.
The Weather May Be Up in the Air
Depending on where you live, February can be an odd month when it comes to the weather. It can be very unpredictable. This is an important fact to note if you’re going to be having your wedding outdoors, especially if you’re in an area that could be prone to storms. A sudden storm popping up out of nowhere could inhibit people’s ability to get to your wedding. Keep that in mind as you decide on the locations of your ceremony and reception. Choose a venue that has the option for both indoor and outdoor receptions.
